ADMISSIONS
With the ever increasing demand for the limited places
available, admission to Sammo High School is very competitive. Only half of
those who apply are admitted. Admission is solely based on merit. However, exceptions are made for Ghanaian students with poor BECE performance but are ready and willing to learn

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants from Junior High School in Ghana must obtain at
least grade one or two in six subjects of the Basic Education Certificate
Examination (BECE) offered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Foreign applicants must present credentials equivalent to the Ghanaian BECE.
There are however very limited places for applicants abroad. Most enrolling
first year students are of 14years of age. However, there is no age requirement.
COURSES
OF STUDY
The school runs a three - year Senior
Secondary/Senior High course and prepares students to sit for the West African
Examination Council Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the
following disciplines – General Science, General Art, Business/commerce, Home
Economics and Visual Arts. Sammo students enter institutions of high education
like the universities, polytechnics or (nursing) training colleges after successfully
completing the WASSCE.
The Elective subjects in the various disciplines are:

GENERAL SCIENCE:
Physics, chemistry, biology and elective mathematics

GENERAL ARTS:
Government, Geography, History, Economics, Elective Literature
·
BUSINESS/COMMERCE:
Financial Accounting, Principles of Cost Accounting, Business Management,
Economics, Elective Mathematics
·
HOME ECONOMICS:
Biology, Food and Nutrition, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art (GKA)
·
VISUAL ARTS:
Ceramics, General Knowledge in Arts, Picture Making
In
addition to the above, each student is to take courses in the following core
subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social
Studies.

STUDENTS
AT SAMMO SENIOR HIGH
SAMMO has a diverse student body. Numbering over 1500, the
students come from various social and economic background. Majority of the
students are from all the ten regions of Ghana. However, there are a few foreign students mostly from Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, South Africa and other parts of the world. All enrolling fresh
students have a grade one or better in the Basic Education Certificate
Examination. Though students are introduced to a rigorous academic program they
are also encouraged to pursue personal development through the numerous
extracurricular activities. Sammo encourages its students to actively participate in extracurricular activities and join campus organizations to develop leadership skills. The dynamism that is usually associated with Sammo students is borne out of its numerous campus clubs. The new student soon discovers that Sammo is not only a citadel of academic scholarship but also an incubator of character and leadership.
ENROLLMENT
Accepted applicants enroll in September. The school academic
year is divided into three terms:
1st Term - September - December (First Term)
2nd Term - January - March
(Second Term)
3rd Term - April - July
(Third Term)
All accepted applicants are encouraged to apply for their
choice of dormitory of residence. Due to the popular demand for certain
dormitories, applicants will be evaluated on a first come-first serve basis.
